Changes to .eu Terms and Conditions

EURid, the registry manager of the .eu, .ею (Cyrillic) and .ευ (Greek) top-level domains has modified its Terms and Conditions for the following reasons:

  • to comply with the new legal framework for .eu domain names (Regulation 2019/517 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 March 2019 and its accompanying Acts).
  • to make the new Terms and Conditions clearer and more accessible by combining the existing Terms and Conditions and Registration Policy into one document.

The new Terms and Conditions are available on EURid’s website (https://eurid.eu/en/other-infomation/document-repository/) and we encourage you to read the new Terms and Conditions in full.

The new Terms and Conditions will take effect from 13 October 2022 and by keeping and renewing your domain name(s), you confirm having read and accepted the modified terms and conditions.

If you do not agree with the new Terms and Conditions, you may choose to delete your domain name(s) before the effective date via your registrar, i.e. the company with whom you have registered your domain name(s).

Revision in Renewal & Restoration Policy for .EU Domains

The .EU Registry has announced a change in its policy with respect to Domain Renewals as a result of which .EU Domains will no longer enjoy any Renewal Grace Period. This change will come into effect from 23rd of November, 2016.

A domain name that is not renewed before the expiry date will now directly expire and be available for restoration at the stipulated restoration price. If you have any .EU domain names coming up for renewal on or before 23 November, please ensure that you renew your .EU domains as soon as possible.

EU Registry Downtime Notice & Changes to .EU Lifecycle

We have an important update from the .EU registry, please make note of the same and communicate the changes in the life cycle to your .EU registrants.

.EU Registry Downtime:

.EU is moving to a new registration platform on 15th September, 2014, because of which, there will be a downtime of 3 days – from 12th September, 2014 to 15th September, 2014. During the downtime, it will not be possible to perform any transaction on .EU domain names. Please note that:

  • New registrations will be queued and processed once the downtime is over
  • Any system changes/renewals/transfers will fail and will need to be resubmitted when the downtime is over

.EU Domain Lifecycle Change:

Post the launch of the new platform, newly registered .EU domains will follow a different renewal/expiry life cycle. These changes will impact registrations made only after 15th September, 2014. At present, the .EU domains expire at the end of the month they were registered in.

15th September, 2014 onwards, newly registered .EU domains will renew or expire at the end of the registration term.
